– Benjamin Feagin Jr., the CEO of AgriTech North.
AgriTech North will provide access to nutritious non-GMO produce that is free of herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides to communities throughout Northwestern Ontario. The produce will be grown at AgriTech North’s vertical farming facility in Dryden, Ontario utilizing sustainable practices that consume 90% less water and 60% less nutrients than conventional and organic farming methods, making the fresh produce even “Better than Organic.” Its fresh, premium quality produce will begin to be offered to its clients approximately April of 2022. The company is owned and operated by Benjamin, a Métis Nation of Ontario citizen who is also LGBTQ2+ and disabled.
AgriTech North also operates as a research center specifically designed to address the food security crises plaguing us Canada- wide, with Northwestern Ontario’s harsh climate providing a proving ground for novel technologies. The research center’s goal is to find various ways to reduce capital and operating costs while also improving the viability of infrastructure for development and operation in the Far North. AgriTech North intends to decrease Canada’s reliance on imported produce by deploying facilities within Far North communities that combine multiple technologies that together improve the viability of growing a full vegetarian diet year-round from within those communities that compliment hunting and fishing yields. AgriTech North is supported by several academic institutions to accelerate the development, deployment, and validation of novel technologies and integrations at scale.
